Nailsea Tithe Barn dates from 1480 and, with Holy Trinity Church, is part of Nailsea’s historic heart. A school for over 200 years, it is now fully restored to its medieval origins. The vaulted ceiling, stonework and owl & putlog holes are some of the beautiful features that have been maintained, alongside all modern facilities.

From 1480 the Tithe Barn was just want its name tells us. It was a place for the inhabitants of medieval Nailsea to bring a portion of the crops that they had grown, to be stored through the winter months and to provide food for the local population throughout the lean months.
Autumn was a busy time in the fields around Holy Trinity Church and, as in all the small, rural communities, it was a time for celebration and enjoyment as they brought the harvest home.
To mark this significant time of year, the Friends of Nailsea Tithe Barn held a Harvest supper on Saturday 11th October. Forty or so people enjoyed a meal of cheese, ham, bread and side dishes. This was followed by films showing how harvest had been celebrated in the southwest over the years. A very enjoyable celebration of a tradition that is perhaps drifting away.
